R4S NFL Awards

The NFL hands out the AP awards this weekend.  We all like to predict who we think will win and who deserves to win.  We don't always agree with the outcome and state our case why we believe our guy should have won the award.  Since I don't get a vote that actually counts, I figured I'd share my thoughts with you guys.  So here my winners for the 2012 NFL awards.

  1. I think the best WR was Calvin Johnson by far. I agree with a lot of your picks, but I believe the game of the year was either:

49ers vs. Patriots, Broncos vs. Chargers, or Packers vs. Vikings

    1. Megatron is a tough pick for me. You could make great arguments for Andre Johnson, Marshall, and even Demaryius Thomas as top WR. Yards aren't the tell-all for a WR if you ask me. Any top WR that has a QB that has the most attempts in the league will pile up the yards.

  2. I hear ya on Calvin Johnson and my co host picked him as well. But only 5 TD's and on a losing team. Being on a bad team isn't necessarily criteria for certain individual awards but I thought Marshall was clutch all year.

As for the game of the year. GB vs Minn is definitely up there but the other 2 were just huge comebacks and not necessarily great games. They were boring and lop-sided for the most part.

I always appreciate your input Chinwe.

    1. i hear what you're saying. I just like comebacks. How about Ravens vs. Broncos. You have to think hard about this stuff. Have to take out the schedule and the scores and try to remember watching that game. Thanks for the encouragement man, I appreciate it.

  3. How does rg3 win ROY? It's not even close who was rookie of the year, it just comical anymore. The best rookie hands down was Andrew Luck. He had less veteran weapons, as a matter of fact, 37 players on the colts roster were first year players, or less than 2 years NFL experience. He broke every rookie passing record that was held by cam newton, and Peyton manning before him. So explain to me how bob wins it? It's because if the never ending ESPN hype, and the market he plays in. I also truly believe the NFL has a short term outlook on rg3, they know he will never win an MVP, a Superbowl, or last a full season during his career, he is nothing more than a passing version of Michael Vick (minus dog killing). So maybe the NFL just said, here, lets give this to bob, and save the MVP awards, and Superbowl MVPs for luck. It honestly just doesn't make sense how bob won it. I honestly think that the ravens start a downwards spiral for years, they will overpay flacco (who's not elite) and be in cap hell for many years, and the defense looks old and slow, so yeah, I think Pitts, and even hold your breath, the browns start making runs in the afc north. I think the browns will be a team to be reckoned with very soon, but 20 years of picking in the top ten should do that for you, the bengals are going to be around for a while, and we all know the colts are here to stay. The afc will be shifting very soon, and Brady is in his twighlight, as is manning, is Ryan mallet waiting in the wings in NE? A lot of interesting thoughts as everything plays out. All I know, is dont but into the pistol, read option offenses, they aren't here to stay, and defensive coordinators will stop it in it's short lived track....

    1. Scott I love ya man but you are the most bias fan I have ever spoke to. You see the world thru Colts colored glasses.

  4. I can't admit to being biased, just like most fans, I've been a colts fan since they played their first game in Indy when I was a 9 year old boy. See living in Indy, you weren't a colts fan, because we had no team, and most people who live here, haven't been fans until Peyton manning. I loved having an NFL team, and was always being made fun of for sticking with the colts. A few of my friends always "wanted" to cheer for them, but season after season of 3-13, 2-14, and multiple first overall picks, it just became so draining to cheer for them. Then one magical run, by a man named Jim harbaugh took us to one play from the Superbowl, and the years of being terrible just went away, to come so close to tasting a Superbowl made all the bad years go away. Then came Peyton, and the millions of bandwagon fans. All the while I'm happy for the colts, the new breed of fan disgusted me, going to a colts game was no longer an emotional experience, but more of a cheese and wine, status symbol crowd. The rowdies started to leave, as the tickets got too expensive. I have been a colts fan since 1984 when I was 9, and knew that having an NFL team in this city was a priviledge, and even through the worst seasons, stayed true. I was one if the very very very few fans that wanted Peyton to go. As much as he brought to this city, and his children hospital, national exposure, and being a true ambassador, it was time, and Irsay made the CRAZIEST move of all time releasing a hall of fame QB. Well, Luck is going to be amazing, and going to games this year, it had a whole new excitement to it, like back when harbaugh was here, and Peyton's first runs. It's a new, completely different excitement all over again. To say Indy fans were spoiled is an understatement, 12 win seasons were just expected, and will we make it back to the big game was just everyday talk, but the fake fan that cried and cussed Irsay never had been through multiple losing seasons, and only recognized the colts through Peyton. I know this is a lot of babble, but just wanted to give insight why in such a homer. I love NFL football, and love what it brings out in people, how complete strangers can just immediately have something in common, and talk for days about football.... Thanks for letting me rant!!!
