The Year of the Lions?
Is this the year the Lions actually make the SuperBowl? I'm not sure but there are probably thousands and thousands of Lions fans who would say yes!
I have lost some interest in football in the last few years. I can say that it has to do with a lot of the rule changes and the pace of the game on TV. I still watch football from time to time, more college than pro, and I still enjoy the sport itself. I have an internal struggle with every sport, even my favorite, baseball, when it comes to the money these guys make to play a game. I watched a little bit of the Michigan State game (offense still sucks), Michigan game (team looks fantastic...Gardner Heisman) and some of the Lions (team was CLICKING with Bush) and I still have a great respect for the sport. There just isn't the fire to watch the games for me. I play fantasy football and that is about my only draw to the game on a weekly basis.
So, why am I writing about the Lions? Partly because I am from the Detroit area and partly because I used to root for the Lions weekly. I miss the days of Barry. I remember a Thanksgiving game where I bet a co-worker that Scott Mitchell (yeah, him) would pass for 300 yds, Herman Moore (remember him?) would catch 100 yds, and Barry Sanders (everyone knows him) would rush for 150 yds! Can you believe that I actually won that bet! It's crazy to think about those numbers from players on the same team but it happened! I was turned off of the Lions by that douche Matt Millen screwing up the draft for so many years. Other things have happened that have pushed me away but that helped.
Today I call myself a Packers fan. I'm no more of a fan that watches every game than I was 4 years ago but I still root for the Pack. A lot of that has to do with some of the IDIOT Lions fans that are out there. I won't name names but let's just say they are family and I hate watching games with them. Too many Lions fans get dragged down with those dopes but that's the name of the game (when it comes to fans).
So, let's look at these Lions. Stafford was a great pick by the Lions (one of the only ones for years) and, after some injury problems, has turned into the QB that I knew he could be (I loved watching him in college). Megatron, AKA Calvin Johnson, is one of the greatest WRs to ever play the game. I love watching this guy play. So stinking GOOD! The Lions go out and get, injury prone RB (sorry Reg) Reggie Bush. This was such a great move for the franchise that I actually celebrated for the franchise. What does Bush do in his first regular season game? 191 yards between rushing and receiving! I liked this guy before and the Lions are going to run the league with him in the backfield, Stafford calling the shots and Calvin catching balls.
I hate to say it, since I lost interest a few years ago, but the Lions look like a team that can make a run DEEP into the playoffs. The only issue of concern is on defense with their anchorman (laugh it up) Suh. This guy needs to stop playing dirty, period. Even if you're not intending to be a dirty player, you make some possibly dirty plays. I think you need to take a step back and start making textbook plays from now on to avoid any possible connection to a dirty play. Best of luck to you, you overpaid cheap shot artist.
Anyway, I have a feeling that this team will do something great in this division and possibly make a run for playing in the Superbowl! Time will tell!
