Panthers: Jonathan Stewart's career in jeopardy?

Jonathan Stewart was one of the names to get injured this past Sunday in the NFL. It was a devastating blow for the Carolina Panthers who was looking to make a huge push and start the playoffs with plenty of momentum. Fortunately for the Panthers they have two other capable running backs in Deangelo Williams and Mike Tolbert. Nothing went right for the Panthers this past Sunday and they lost to the New Orleans Saints 31-13. Stewart was apart of actually a quartet (Cam Newton) of great runners on the team. He started off the season injured and battled back only to go out again.

Now its time for the Panthers to think long and hard about Stewart. They invested a large amount of money in Stewart and Williams a couple of years ago. Most thought this team was crazy for spending so much on their backfield with obvious holes on the team. The Panthers must think if they want to bring back Stewart because they have two good backs on this team. Frankly Stewart at this point is taking up a roster spot, he is not as important as he once was because of the addition of Tolbert.

When Stewart was drafted, he actually had some success in the NFL and that's why the Panthers gave him a great contract. In 2009 he rushed for 1,133 yards and he only started 3 game that year. Since that year he has only been able to eclipse 700 yards since. When looking at the numbers and his history of injuries, its only a matter of time before Stewart is released from the Panthers. If the Panthers release him it may be hard for him to land with another team. Yes, Stewart's career is in jeopardy.
