Cleveland Browns: Trade for Cam Newton
I know most that read this article will be taken back by my idea. However I feel that Carolina just took a huge blow to their reputation in how they handled the entire Steve Smith situation. If I'm a player on the Panthers I would be wondering if they team had any loyalty. The original thoughts would be no, teams are all about making money and could care less about players. Steve Smith was also a big piece in why Cam Newton had the numbers he had as well. This hurts the entire team including their main weapon and face of the organization.
Nobody really knows how Cam Newton feels about Steve Smith's departure except for the normal things that he's supposed to say to the media. "It's a business" Of course it is and in this business players need to go to up and coming franchises or an established team. Cleveland is one of those teams, everyone believes that they are a quarterback away from doing some true damage. If the Browns can't draft well when it comes to the position why not trade for one? Why not trade for a franchise quarterback that's in his contract year and on a team that may have just pissed him off by giving away his biggest weapon.
Panthers are in danger of losing Newton via free agency if they don't do anything to bring him weapons or prove that they are willing to get to the next level. Most players now a days would love to win, especially for a quarterback they know the money will be there for them. This younger generation is all about what have you done for me lately and they are impatient. If Carolina can't build a team around him why should he show any loyalty and sign up for more years of mediocrity especially when he was so close to success.
I know your like what the heck??? Your talking about the Browns who has had plenty of years/lifetime of mediocrity. However, they are in a strong position to win and in a weaker division. They have a ton of draft picks an aggressive management team as well. There's a ton of things that are lining up for Cleveland and with the facts of them signing some big time free agents players might actually be changing their mind. Still the biggest thing is they have to win and Newton will most definitely take them there. Not to mention Newton and Joe Haden used to be roommates in Florida. Cleveland has the draft picks to make this happen and I know it sounds absolutely absurd I wouldn't shake my head or scoff at them trying to be aggressive and get it done.
Would you do it? I mean to actually think about it... I would rather have Cleveland make a trade then draft a possible bust again and again. Franchise QB's don't often get traded or leave... Peyton Manning, Drew Brees after the teams thought they were washed up. If this is a possibility shouldn't or wouldn't it be Cam Newton? Leave a comment below...
