Tonight, the Dallas Stars were in a game against the St. Louis Blues that could potentially be a playoff berth for the Stars. For quite some time, they have been in a race for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference, with the Phoenix Coyotes who have been hot on Dallas’ tail all season.
The reason I feel they are in this position lies in the roster. Last year when the Dallas Stars were bought by new owner Tom Giglardi, they started to undergo a transformation. Top players Brendan Morrow, Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy were traded while new faces were brought in.
To lead the new era, are guys like; Alex Chiasson, Colton Sceviour, Antoine Roussel, who were called up from the minor leagues in Austin. Then there's the familiar mainstay players Jamie Benn, and Erik Cole plus the newly acquired players Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley, and Shawn Horcoff, who were free agent signers this past off season and took the reigns, to name a few players.
So far, the players have gelled despite a semi up-and-down season. Kari Lehtonen, the defensive corps and everyone in depth roles, look to be ready to take Dallas into the playoffs. This regretfully is somewhere they haven't been in the past five years. The only thing standing in their way is TWO points.
With last night’s loss, Phoenix made it easier for Dallas. Now all Dallas had to do is win tonight against the Blues, which they did. So, a likely first round opponent would be the Anaheim Ducks, in what Stars fans hope to be a long playoff run.
